Erb’n Roots is a sensible-shoes adventure. This is, after all, country living, and we value biodiversity and the kind of care that will keep this land beautiful for generations to come. That also means thistles and briars and other thorny nonsense. We can’t guarantee against poison ivy either. Mother Nature can be pretty stubborn!

But we think you’ll find it worth the mile and a half that winds up and down, around and across hilly terrain, crossing creeks and a variety of habitats.

Explore our Trails

Barn Road

You’ll start your adventure at Barn Road, walking due north on this tractor trail toward a fork and your first decision.
This is our most walkable trail, and you can double back at the Barn Road fork, or - to add to your adventure - turn right to explore Fallen Rock or left to stroll the Sunny Straight.
Fallen Rocks

The trail to the moss-covered Fallen Rocks is not for the faint-hearted or those without good shoes. Didn’t we tell you to bring good shoes? Tread carefully; the rocks are slippery as they lead to a small waterfall in the cool shade of towering trees, and two other options: The Woodland Loop or a loop across the bridge and back to the Barn Road fork.
Woodland Loop

From Fallen Rocks, the Woodland loop is a casual, and mostly flat jaunt through intermittent shade and sun. Look up and around for wildlife, and look down for interesting mushrooms and fungus. We like to think fairies live here! The Woodland Loop returns you to Barn Road where you started.
Sunny Straight

Sunny Straight is a pasture of big sky and flowers. From the Barn Road Fork, head left and up the hill for a sunny stretch through the Highlands’ pasture. We rotate our cattle through pastures, so - if you think about it, you’re walking through their dinner! (We don’t think they mind.)
That bright purple flower is annoying to farmers because it can take over hayfields, but it provides an excellent source of nectar for butterflies and bees.
Dave's Hill

This is our favorite spot, and it offers front row seats to each sunset. Walk to the tippy-top from the Sunny Straight Fork. It will be worth it - we promise! Look west. Do you see Marietta?
If you’re ready to head back, we have one request, run! Look back to the Lightning Tree. Yep, it’s been struck by lightning several times. We think that’s a great reason to celebrate the power of Mother Nature, and that includes that power within us. Run and yell and feel those lungs. Ready, set, go!
Hammocking Grove

If you made it to Dave’s Hill, congratulations! You need a rest. Hammocking Grove offers just that, and cool shade, too. Refuel here, then continue on the path through The Brambles, back to the Sunny Straight fork and return to the homestead.
